Splendid mosaic morocco binding by Du Pont, containing one of 17 copies on Japon impérial (N°9), with an original watercolour by André Lambert, 3 states of the illustrations and 2 copper plates inlaid on the slipcase.

In-4 (210x300mm), full brown morocco, female silhouettes mosaicked in fawn morocco in a black and gilt fillet decoration on the boards, spine decorated with a brown mosaic fan covered with gilt stars, all edges gilt, lining in the same brown morocco decorated with cold and gilt fillets, signed "Du Pont, rel. Lille" at the bottom, brown moiré silk endpapers, double endpapers, slipcase decorated with two copperplates inlaid in the boards. Binding signed Du Pont.
92 pages, 8 pages (numbered a to g) and XLI (text in Latin), 25 coloured etchings by A. Lambert, including one frontispiece and 24 in the text.
Slight rubbing to the edges of the slipcase.
A very fine edition, entirely engraved, enriched with a preface, notes and the Latin text, decorated and illustrated with original colour etchings by the Swiss engraver and illustrator André LAMBERT (1884-1967).
Limited edition of 350 copies, this being one of 17 copies on Japon impérial à la forme (N°9), to which have been added an original watercolour by the artist, the copperplate of the text and the copperplate of the illustration on page 70 (inlaid in the slipcase), and 3 additional suites, including the first state on Japon, the definitive state printed in one tone with remarks on Japon, and the state of the two colour plates combined on vellum.
A choice copy bound in Lille by Du Pont, perfectly preserved in its luxurious slipcase decorated with two copper plates inlaid on the boards, one of which depicts Mercury wearing the caduceus and the petascus hat.
