First edition. Limited edition of 475 numbered copies, this one of 450 on laid paper, n°294.
A choice copy, prepared by André Barrier, who has included some rare original pieces, including the portrait of Jacques Amyot engraved in medallion (1803).
In total, the volume includes 25 original pieces mounted at the beginning of the work and 23 loose pieces, most of which bear a handwritten reference number from Barrier's collection. It is also enriched with numerous handwritten annotations in the margins.
André Barrier (Paris, 1870-1957), a great bibliophile and collector of prints, was president of the Paris Court of Appeal and president of the Cent Bibliophiles. His fine etched bookplate appears on the first flyleaf.
