Manchon, one of 235 copies reprinted on Hollande (N°7), including 3 states of the etchings and enriched with a delicate original watercolour signed P. Jazet and dated 1887, in a splendid full morocco binding signed Chambolle-Duru. Paris, Calmann-Lévy, 1886. In-8, emerald green morocco, spine ribbed with gilt stippling, central fleuron and corner fleurons gilt in a triple frame to the entrenerfs, gilt lettering, triple gilt fillet on the boards, double gilt fillet on the edges, large interior roulette, gilt edges on witnesses, marbled paper lining and endpapers, covers preserved, untrimmed (Chambolle-Duru). 319 pages, 1 portrait-frontispiece, 1 header vignette, six plates out of text and a cul-de-lampe, etched by G. Mouchon after Pierre JAZET. Spine faded, slight browning on covers. First edition and first print run of the illustrations by Paul-Léon Jazet (1848-1918) etched by G. Manchon, including a frontispiece portrait of the author. Limited edition of 235 copies reprinted and numbered on Hollande, this one No. 7, including three states of the etchings: final state, pure etching, state before the letter. A precious copy enriched with an original watercolour in colours on the false title, signed P. Jazet and dated 1888. Ex-libris with the monogram of Paul Villeboeuf and ex-libris of Marcel de Merre on the flyleaf. [Vicaire, V, 404]. Very fine binding signed Chambolle-Duru, a partnership of two important bookbinders of the late nineteenth century: René Victor Chambolle (1834-1898) and Hippolyte Duru (1803-1884).
