[ARTIST'S BOOK] - BÉNÉZET (Mathieu). HÉLÉNON (Philippe). Your last gesture could have drowned us. An artist's book combining the poetic art of Mathieu Bénézet with original paintings by Philippe Hélénon; a unique copy full of manuscripts, given by the poet to his wife. Éditions Rehauts, 2006. Large 8 x 8 volume (260 x 180 mm), leaves in black printed cover, illustrated on spine, filled. In publisher's cloth-covered slipcase. Unpaginated [16ff]. First edition illustrated with two original double-page paintings by Philippe Hélénon (mixed media, gouache and watercolour). Unique limited edition of only 7 copies, all on Montval paper, this one n°4/7 signed by the author and the artist. An exceptional partnership copy given by the author to his wife, bearing this touching autograph: "Olga, mon amour [...] ton Mathieu. It is enriched with 5 handwritten and typed pages, annotated and dated by the poet. Attached is a handwritten greetings card with an original unpublished watercolour by Philippe Hélénon, addressed to Mathieu Bénézet (December 2005). Mathieu Bénézet (1946-2013): A major poet and novelist awarded the Prix de la poésie by the Académie française, he left his mark on the avant-garde with an experimental body of work questioning the limits of narrative. Philippe Hélénon (1954-2022): A painter and engraver who won the Guy Lévis Mano prize, he was a prolific illustrator for major bibliophile publishers (Fata Morgana) and an inspired creator of painted books.
