MAUPASSANT (Guy de) and DUNOYER DE SEGONZAC (André). Contes du jour et de la nuit - The Rondoli Sisters. Illustrations by A. Dunoyer de Segonzac. A unique copy with 36 signed original drawings by André Dunoyer de Segonzac (1884-1974). Paris, Librairie de France, 1938. In-4 (200x250 mm), half chocolate brown morocco with corners edged in gold, spine with 4 cold-framed raised bands, gilt-edged head, untrimmed, covers and spine preserved, slipcase edged and lined with grey felt (Georges Cretté). 458 pages, 84 drawings by A. Dunoyer de Segonzac, including 76 black drawings in the text and 8 hors-texte (4 in colour). Minor rubbing to spine, slight wear to slipcase. Fourth volume of this fine edition of Maupassant's works, presenting the "Contes du jour et de la nuit" and "Les soeurs Rondoli", preceded by a note by René Dumesnil and illustrated with 84 drawings and watercolours by the French painter, draughtsman, engraver and illustrator André Dunoyer de Segonzac (1884-1974), of which 76 are in black in the text and 8 off-text (of which 4 are in colour). Limited edition of 2015 copies, this being one of 60 copies on Hollande van Gelder (N°LVIII) after 15 on Japon, with a separate suite of hors-texte on Vélin d'Arches. A unique copy enriched with 36 fine original drawings by Dunoyer de Segonzac, pen and ink wash, signed and annotated (only one, unsigned, is annotated on the back, in pencil). The majority of these drawings have been reproduced in the book, but considerably reduced; some are unpublished. A precious copy, well established by Georges Cretté.
