Description
VICAIRE (Gabriel). Bresse enamels. A precious copy bound by Vermorel, enriched with an autograph poem signed by the author, two pages in-8, entitled "Le Feu Follet", corresponding to the text printed on page 259 of the collection. Paris, Librairie Henri Leclerc, 1904. In-8 volume (190 x 141 mm). Blue morocco, spine ribbed, gilt title, stylized decoration of foliage and holly fruits in green, brown and red morocco mosaics on the covers, moiré silk endpapers with coloured motifs. Covers and spine preserved. Bordered cardboard slipcase. (Binding signed VERMOREL). (2 ff.), 288 pp, (2 ff. last blank). New edition of this fine collection of poems about Bresse by Gabriel Vicaire, published in 1884; a "transparent homage to Théophile Gautier's collection Émaux et Camées (1852). "Vicaire's poems are like so many jewels set in a collection celebrating the land of his ancestors, its customs, its landscapes, a simple Bresse happiness". An unsigned autograph letter, dated 15 April 1859, is enclosed: Monsieur de Montalembert [Charles de, 1810-1870] has the honour of sending Monsieur Gabriel Vicaire, whom he does not know at all, the address of ...? With whom he has unfortunately had no relations since December 1857'. A very fine copy.
