MARTIN (Charles) - VILLON (François). Le Grant testament de Villon et le petit, son codicille, le jargon et ses ballades. A superb copy bound by Georges Cretté and enriched with five original drawings by Charles Martin. [Paris], Les compagnons de la Galère, [1932]. In-4 volume (275 x 220mm). Brown morocco, boards and spine covered with a geometrical decoration of fillets and rectangles in cold, smooth spine decorated with the title in gilt, brown velvet lining and endpapers, gilt edges on untrimmed witnesses, cover preserved, lined slipcase. Binding signed G. Cretté, Marius Michel's successor. 3ff.n.ch., 168 pp. 3ff.n.ch. Minor rubbing to first spine. A few discreet transfers opposite the engravings. The slipcase is rubbed on the covers and corners. Superb edition of only 125 copies on Arches wove paper, illustrated with 76 original engravings in colour by Charles MARTIN (1884-1937), including one in the frontispiece. One of 20 copies with a suite of colour engravings (n°17). A precious copy enriched with original drawings by Charles Martin, namely an unpublished watercolour and an original pencil sketch of the illustration on page 43. In addition, 8 pages of proofs (pp. 37-40 and 53-56) including 3 original sketches by the artist, one of which is enhanced in colour, have been bound in. Provenance: Docteur G. Marchal, with bookplate. A very well preserved copy.
