[Carthusian Missal]. Missale carthusiense || Engraving of Saint Brumo || Venundatur parisiis in vico divi Iacobi apud Thielmannu(m) Kerver ad signum unicornis, vbi et impressumj cum privilegio. Fine Parisian edition of the liturgical missal of the Carthusian order, drawn up by Gruel in a finely decorated binding. Paris, Thielman Kerver, 1520, 9 August. In-8 volume (176 x 125 mm), full late 21st century brown morocco, ribbed spine, boards entirely decorated with beautiful Renaissance-style cold-stamped decoration, gilt roulette inside the boards, all edges gilt (Binding by Gruel). 182 ff of 184 ff (15 ff.n.ch.(calendr.)(lacking the last leaf of the calendar)-clxvii f-1 f.n.ch.(lacking leaf clxvii), several pagination errors in quires k and n, without lack of text; sign.A-B, a-x8. Title margins and colophon rebound. Discreet wetness on all pages, more pronounced at beginning and on ff33-44, 57, 72-105, 122-162. Leaf a8 with short margins. Handwritten notes from the 16th century: B5, k2, k8. Fine post-incunabula edition by Thielman Kerver, a famous Parisian publisher of hour books active in the early 16th century. Entirely in Gothic type, printed in red and black on two columns and 39 lines. The illustration includes a handsome title with a woodcut of Saint Bruno, and the arms of the Redemption without a unicorn on a full-page facing the printing permit granted to Kerver. In addition, the work is adorned with 2 woodcuts outside the text, including one of the Trinity with the symbols of the evangelists in the corners, 7 small woodcuts in the text, numerous initials on sifted font and Kerver's beautiful unicorn mark in the colophon. Missal established with the assistance of the Carthusian monks in order to offer the most authentic version. A carefully restored copy preserved in a fine binding by Gruel.
