ZOLA (Émile). Lourdes, Rome, Paris. Precious complete set of the three cities in first edition, each enriched with an autograph signed letter from Zola to the historian Albert Sorel. Fasquelle, éditeurs, 1894, 1896, 1898. 3 volumes in-12 (180 x 122 mm), Bradel-style boards in wine-coloured half-percaline, spines decorated with gilt. Bound in contemporary style. 608, 598 and 751 pages. Spines uniformly sunned, a little warped. Slight wear to corners and headpieces. Interior a little yellowed, some very rare foxing. First edition on plain paper. Each volume includes, on the title page, a signed letter from Émile Zola to Albert Sorel (1842-1906). A major historian of the Revolution and the Empire, academician and co-founder of the École libre des sciences politiques, Sorel was a central figure in French intellectual life at the time. Uniform set, well preserved.
