In-8, brown basane, ribbed spine decorated with gilt irons with red title page, boards decorated with a fillet framed in cold, edges with gilt roulette, all edges red. 208 pages handwritten in black, red and green ink on 123 leaves. A few common freckles, slight yellowing and ink discharges on some leaves, overall bright. Published in Pau by Desbarats in 1663, this study consists of a historical chronicle of the town of Bayonne, a catalogue of its bishops, governors, mayors and aldermen, a memoir giving a political and economic description of the town, a statistical table on the demography of the communes in the region and four royal ordinances. The study contains numerous forgeries designed to flatter the local elites by providing proof of their seniority. A copy of meticulous calligraphy signed Jean Corrioles and dated 1st November 1751, featuring a title page embellished with delicate polychrome floral decoration and a dedication signature adorned with an eagle. Provenance: Library of Dr Louis Raillard.
