A luxurious copy on Japon (N°3), including an original watercolour and two suites of Brunelleschi's illustrations, on Japon mince and on Madagascar, impeccably bound by Grégoire Levitzky in full morocco. Paris, Albin Michel, s.d. [1933]. Large in-4 (260x320 mm), light green grosgrain morocco, spine with 4 cold-framed bands, first cover decorated with a play of gold, dotted and cold fillets, depicting a jet of water reminiscent of the illustration on the cover, gilt fillet on the edges, Raspberry morocco lining set with a double gilt frame with cold-cut corner fleurons and mosaics in ochre, green and violet morocco, light green moiré silk endpapers, double endpapers, gilt edges on witnesses, covers and spine preserved, half morocco striped cover jacket, edged slipcase. (G. Levitzky). Copper missing. 173 pages, numerous colour illustrations by Brunelleschi, including 1 frontispiece, 20 hors-texte copper-engraved plates, and 42 vignettes and culs-de-lampe. Edges faded, slight rubbing at head and foot of spine. One flyleaf and browned spine on dust jacket, wear to slipcase. Deluxe edition limited to 464 numbered copies, this one of the first 20 on Japon supernacré (N°3), containing an original watercolour of one of the hors-texte (pp. 56-57) and two suites of illustrations, one on Japon mince and one on Madagascar. First edition of charming original compositions by the painter and illustrator Umberto Brunelleschi (1879-1949), engraved on copper and coloured in Jacomet's workshops. An admirable copy signed by the talented and atypical bookbinder Grégoire Lévitzky (1885-1969).
