JAPAN – MEIJI period (1868–1912). Small cabinet with six front-opening drawers, finished in silver and brown lacquer with hira maki-e decoration in gold lacquer and quail mother-of-pearl inlays depicting chrysanthemums, an owl amongst pine trees, a bird amongst magnolias and peonies on a chequered background, with copper fittings and knobs in the shape of persimmons, pomegranates and peaches. (Signs of wear; some lacquer missing)
