Provenance: the artist’s descendants
Eliane Birabent (1897–1980), wife of Legrois, born in Algeria and having travelled and lived with her husband around the world, notably in Antwerp, was a pupil of Octave Guillonnet at the JULIAN studio on Rue de Berry in Paris. Her early work was strongly influenced by Gustave Moreau. As an Orientalist painter, she developed her style towards a colourful lyricism inspired by the light of North Africa and Spain. Mountain landscapes, particularly those of Savoy, also feature prominently in her work.
