Brittany. Family-named wedding chest in moulded oak, decorated with carved acanthus leaves, bunches of grapes and fleurs-de-lis. The upper section opens via two doors, each adorned with a religious sculpture in the round: Saint Joan with a child on the left-hand door and the Virgin and Child on the right-hand door. Four panels decorated with flowers and vine tendrils, and the crossbars are inscribed with ‘JANNE GUILLOU 1681’ and ‘IHS MARIA’. Dated 1681. Key. 17th century.
