Description
LAMPERIERE (19th century). ‘Valmy’, gouache and wash on paper, titled in the top right-hand corner, signed in the bottom right-hand corner. (visible dimensions 44x59 cm). The Valmy was a three-deck, 120-gun ship of the line commissioned under the 1824 Paris Commission and launched in 1847. It was designed by the engineer and Inspector-General of the Navy, Paul-Marie Leroux (1786–1853), grandson of the French naval architect Jacques-Noël Sané, to whom the fleet owed most of its ships then in service.
