Council of Five Hundred. Gilded bronze medal. Obverse: COUNCIL OF THE FIVE HUNDRED. The Tablets of the Law, on which the words ‘Constitution of the Year Three’ are inscribed in three lines within a circle formed by an ouroboros (a serpent biting its own tail), set on a plumb line. Reverse: REPUBLIC – FRENCH. REPRESENTATION OF THE PEOPLE. YEAR VI. Within an oak wreath, a lictor’s fasces surmounted by a laurelled Phrygian cap resting on a pike, flanked by two upturned cornucopias pouring out fruit onto a base.
