OTTOMAN COLLECTION OF PRAYERS, INCLUDING THE *Enam I Serif* AND AL-JAZULI’S *Dala’il al-Khayrat* TURKEY, LATE 18TH–19TH CENTURY Manuscript on beige paper comprising 160 folios, 15 lines per page in Naskh script in black and red ink, punctuated by gilded rosettes within gilded borders. Illuminated cartouches featuring polychrome plant scrolls on a gold background, intended to indicate the titles or surahs of each section. The first two pages are illuminated with a double sarlowh, and six further sarlowhs, featuring polychrome floral arcades in gold and silver, divide the manuscript. The first section is the Enam I Serif, comprising numerous surahs including the Fatiha, Enam and Yasin. This is followed by a selection of individual prayers and supplications, and finally al-Jazuli’s *Dalal’il al-Khayrat*. Three folios contain tables composed of gilded lines listing the 99 names and attributes of Allah.At the heart of the work (folio 103) are two miniatures depicting the two holy cities: on the right, the Grand Mosque of Mecca, Masjîd al-harâm, surrounded by its seven minarets with the Ka’ba at its centre; on the left, the Mosque of Medina, where the tombs of Muhammad and the first two caliphs, Abu Bakr and Umar, are located. These miniatures are followed by the hilya, the calligraphic circle describing the physical appearance of the Prophet. Numerous marginal notes are present, attesting to prolonged scholarly and devotional use. Fold-over binding in brown morocco leather with embossed decoration, featuring a central mandorla and corner pieces adorned with foliage, and marbled ebru paper inside.
