Letters for Cannes, posted in Brussels on 1 May 1935, franked with 35v green ‘Mercure’ No. 340 + aeroplane No. 1 50c stamp showing an aeroplane flying over Ostend - Features a special airmail cachet, stamped in red in three lines, 16 x 81 mm, and a POSTAL PROPAGANDA VIGNETTE: “AIR UNION, send your letters by air to Corsica, Tunisia, Switzerland and England”. On the reverse, CANNES arrival postmark, 2 May 1935. ( * ) AIR UNION: a French airline founded on 1 January 1923 following the merger of the “Compagnie des Messageries Aériennes” and the “Compagnie des Grands Express Aériens” – On 7 October 1933, it merged with other airlines to form AIR FRANCE.
