STAMPS ON FRAGMENTS – SEALED KILOGRAMS FROM THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT.
In the 1970s and 1980s, when their stamps were withdrawn from circulation, the Japanese postal service would stick unsold stamps onto sheets of paper to keep track of them, then cancel them with a postmark. These sheets covered with stamps were then placed in a box which, once full, was sealed with an official sealing strip.
These boxes, measuring 30 x 39.5 cm and 8 cm thick, therefore contain thousands (20,000 / 25,000...) of stamps in sets – a mixture of small and large commemorative formats.
