GERMAN IMPERIAL MARINE POST - Postcard sent from on board.
Front: bromide photograph of the imperial ship SMS (Seiner Majestät Schiff / His Majesty’s Ship) HOHENZOLLERN, ( * ) at sea on the starboard side; to its left, in colour, the flag of the German Empire and the Emperor’s flag. Lempe edition, Kiel 1908, no. 1241 a/7.
Postal card: red 10 Pf Germania-type stamp with naval postmark ‘KAIS. DEUTSCHE MARINE SCHIFFSPOST No. 70 23 July 1910’ (Kaiser’s German Navy).
( * ) A prestigious vessel belonging to Emperor Wilhelm II, 120 metres long and 14 metres wide. The Emperor used this ship for numerous voyages around the world and for receptions at ports of call across the five continents. He spent the equivalent of four years on board. Withdrawn from service due to the First World War on 30 July 1914. Scrapped in 1923.
