Description
SAINT PIERRE and MIQUELON, French colony 1926 – Letter with a MAKESHIFT POSTAGE ( * ), black print directly on the fold using a framed hand-stamp: “GOVERNMENT PP 030 Saint Pierre and Miquelon / Saint Pierre”. An interesting REGISTERED LETTER for Dijon – supplementary postage with a 75c Seagull stamp – dated postmark in the perlated style: Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, 26 April 1926. Arrived on the reverse, Dijon 20 May 1926. ( * ) PROVISIONAL PP STAMP: as there was a temporary shortage of 30-centime stamps, the post office was forced to use this makeshift stamp to validate postage for France on letters sent from late March to May (approximately 14,000).
