OBOCK, French colony 1901 – TWO HALVES OF STAMPS USED DUE TO A SHORTAGE OF LOW-VALUE POSTAGE STAMPS: ( * ) - No. 51b – 10c group of Somali warriors – right-hand half of the stamp on the front of a strip from the newspaper ‘JOURNAL FRANCO-ETHIOPIEN DJIBOUTI’ for Paris - cancellation: blue Djibouti postmark 2 August + maritime transit postmark, octagonal ‘La Réunion to Marseille, Line No. 3’ 2 August 1901. - No. 54 b – 25c group of Somali warriors – Right-half stamp – small defect at top right corner, simulated perforation intact – on the face of a “Franco-Egyptian” newspaper strip, blue Djibouti date stamp 16 August 1901. ( * ) These stamps were used in Djibouti due to a shortage of stamps in that city. Each half of the 10c stamps was used as a 5c stamp – the right-hand half of the 25c stamp, the one bearing the number 5, was used as a 5c stamp.
