PATRIOTIC STAMPS of the REPUBLIC of BIROBIDZHAN / FORMER SOVIET UNION, JEWISH AUTONOMOUS OBLAST, named in French after its capital (*), situated in Siberia on the border with China. The first official Jewish territory established in the world on 7 May 1934, with Yiddish as its official language (extract from Wikipedia). AUTONOMOUS REGION of the USSR, the territory used Russian postage stamps. In 1991, following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Russian postage stamps then in circulation were overprinted in blocks of four, with some activists in the territory calling for independence… BIROBIDZHAN – Collection of twelve different letters that have been posted.
