N.B.: This coffee table was designed in 1979 by Italian designers Massimo and Lella Vignelli.
The sphere represents the Earth, the cradle and foundation of humanity, whilst the square pyramid symbolises Egyptian civilisation, the first social organisation. The travertine column recreates the Roman Empire, the zenith of ancient civilisation, and is depicted in ruins, reflecting its collapse. The black cube represents the Black Stone of the Kaaba in Mecca, a fundamental element of Islam and a pillar of humanity.
