HEAVY CAVALRY SABRE, MODEL 1784, known as the ‘Arco’, with a brass mount; the three-pronged guard features four fleurons and is adorned with a lictor’s fasces topped with a Phrygian cap; the pommel has a short tail, the wooden grip covered in sheepskin with twisted filigree, the blade stamped as single-edged and featuring a blood groove, stamped ‘V’ – likely for the Versailles armoury; the leather scabbard with three brass fittings, adorned with two loop fastenings.
Late 18th century, Revolutionary period.
