‘Shirazi’ chest or ‘Zanzibar chest’, probably made in India for the Iranian market, 19th century
Rectangular in shape, made of wood with four sides fitted with openwork copper alloy plates, embellished with metal studs that create geometric patterns across the surface. At the centre of the front, a lock decorated with palmette motifs for opening the lid; three drawers along the base of the front, each fitted with a handle; two further handles on the sides for carrying.
