Description
The “NORMAN COURT”
Large framed watercolour and ink on paper, signed “E.DAGORNES” in the bottom right-hand corner
Dimensions: 52.5 x 78.5 cm (67.5 x 95.5 cm including frame)
The Norman Court was a British clipper, built in 1869, renowned for its superb lines and composite design (the wooden hull reinforced by an iron framework was an innovative solution for its time, designed to improve strength and lightness). It was used in the spice trade – particularly tea – with Asia under the command of Shewan father and son, before being lost in 1883 during a storm near Anglesey in Cymyran Bay.
