Description
CEREMONIAL ARMCHAIR
In gilded metal with a high, flat, slightly sloping back. The back is crowned by the number B in the centre of an eagle with outstretched wings, with foliage on either side.
The straight uprights are joined by a crotch strap, with carved decoration in the centre of the Central African arms surmounted by an imperial crown.
Decorated with red and green coloured stones
Seat and back upholstery in red velvet, braid and fringes

This armchair was used by Jean-Bedel Bokassa or his wife Catherine when he was crowned Emperor of the Central African Republic on 4 December 1977, under the name of "Bokassa I, Emperor of the Central African Republic by the will of the Central African people, united within the national political party: MESAN".
