André Borderie is a French ceramist, painter and sculptor born in 1923 who began his career as a painter after discovering the work of Paul Klee.
In the 1950s, he began producing ceramics, living with the couple Vera and Pierre Szekely, and working together until 1957.
Thereafter, he concentrated on other media and in 1963 he was awarded the Grand Prix National de la Tapisserie Française for his tapestry Rue de la Paix, woven at the Manufacture des Gobelins, the cardboard of which was acquired by the mobilier National.
He was a major artist of post-war abstraction.
He created more than four hundred cartoons in his workshop in Senlis.
Shortly before his death, the Abbaye du Ronceray in Angers organised a retrospective of his work.
