A white marble and bronze table clock with a brown and gold patina, depicting Pliny the Elder surmounting an enamelled dial with Roman numerals, signed ‘Mercier à Paris’, set on a white marble base decorated on the front with putti leaning on trophies amidst foliage. Napoleon III period. Key and pendulum. 44 x 50 x 17 cm. Two screw-on feet preserved; the glass panel at the rear is missing; wear to the patina and a few minor chips to the marble.
