Probably the largest painting in the world (600 square metres!), “The Electricity Fairy” is the work of Dufy. Painted for the 1937 International Exhibition, it was a monumental commission for the curved wall of the hall at the Palais de la Lumière et de l’Électricité, designed by Robert Mallet-Stevens on the Champ-de-Mars. This composition features a veritable gallery of figures, ranging from scientists of the present and past to modern depictions of the fairy, and stretching back to Zeus, who powers a generator with his thunderbolt.
