Description
KACHAN carpet (Iran), third third of the 20th century, Shah era. Dimensions: 198 x 131 cm. Technical specifications: Wool pile on a cotton backing. Inspired by Omar Khayyam’s ‘Rubaiyat’ (poems), the design is set in a ‘Garden of Eden’. Indeed, beneath a blue sky, sheltered by a fruit tree and a weeping willow, a noble lady reclines on a wicker basket adorned with a floral ‘mafrash’, listening to a saz player, who is kneeling, under the watchful eye of a servant in a colourful costume. Amidst flower-strewn banks, a stream teeming with fish flows at their feet, where ducks splash about. A wide ruby-coloured border, adorned with trees bearing blossoming corollas, cypresses and flowering stems upon which numerous birds are perched, interspersed with multicoloured landscape panels; flanked by two ivory-coloured counter-borders featuring garlands of flowers. Exquisitely poetic and sublime in its design. Good condition Sold by description
