Bergues; and a version by Hendrik (? sic) van Herp II, now lost (137 x 183 cm). A version by van Herp was

The subject is taken from Herodotus, Book V, Chapter 25
Cambyses, King of the Medes and Persians (6th century BC), sentences a corrupt judge to death. His flayed body is then
cut into strips and used to make the seat of the judge’s throne. Cambyses appoints the judge’s son to
take his father’s place, urging him never to forget what the seat was made of.
