A BEAUTIFUL PAIR OF CHISELLED AND GILDED BRONZE CUPS, ‘PRESUMED EPISODES FROM THE LIFE OF APOLLO’, attributed to Pierre-Philippe THOMIRE (1751–1843) These may depict Daphne fleeing the god’s advances and his struggle against Python. These fluted cups feature borders decorated with vine tendrils and bunches of grapes; they rest on three bamboo-shaped legs ending in lion’s paws, with lizards coiled around each one.
