ASSADABAD CARPET (village near Hamadan), (Iran), mid-20th century.
Dimensions: 493 x 60 cm.
Technical details: Wool pile on a cotton backing.
Against a navy blue field stand out ten interconnected, serrated diamond-shaped medallions, the old rose-coloured centres of which feature a dark, multicoloured cruciform floral composition.
Their serrated outlines are in ivory, ruby, sapphire, anthracite and celadon.
These are interspersed with pyramidal bouquets of flowers, set against an emerald background.
An ivory border featuring a succession of polychrome plant motifs, outlined by two royal blue counter-borders with undulating two-tone ribbons.
Outer border with sawtooth edging in ivory and brick red. Anthracite braid. Beautifully arranged.
