IMPORTANT SAVONNERIE-STYLE RUG (FRANCE), FIRST THIRD OF THE 20TH CENTURY.
Dimensions: 390 x 307 cm.
Technical specifications: Wool pile on a cotton backing.
A double moulded frame, joined together, in cream and celadon, with garlands of small flowers and floral dentils, encloses a segmented ruby-coloured field sown with multicoloured corollas, supporting a substantial cream ‘lace-like panel’ with verdigris-coloured floral interlacing and a central polychrome bouquet of flowers. A circular frame, along with a short old-gold foliage garland, encircles this medallion.
The cardinal points and corners feature floral compositions in celadon, old gold and ruby. Impressive ‘Grand Siècle’ decoration.
