Nikolai ISAEV (known as Nicolas ISSAIEV) (1891–1977) Abstract composition Gouache on paper Signed ‘Issaiev’ lower right 65.5 x 50 cm DESCRIPTION Nicolas Issaïev (also known as Nicolas ISSAIEV) was a painter and theatre set designer of Ukrainian origin. A member of the École de Paris, his style is characterised by a luminous colour palette exploring a variety of themes. He also produced numerous illustrations for literary works. His work has been exhibited in Paris, at the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Tuileries, as well as in New York, Brussels and Belgrade.
