Elisabeth RONGET (1893–1980) Portrait Oil pastel on paper Signed ‘E. Ronget’ lower left 61 x 46 cm (Tear in the lower left-hand corner) PROVENANCE Private collection DESCRIPTION A French painter of German origin, she was a pupil of Ludwig Vierthaler at the School of Applied Arts (Kunstgewerbe- und Handwerkerschule Hannover) and studied in Munich until 1926. Continuing her university studies in Berlin, Elisabeth Bohm became associated with the painters of the Der Blaue Reiter movement, joined the Novembergruppe from 1926 onwards, and frequented the Bauhaus in Dessau. She specialised in painting still lifes and nudes, as well as creating portraits. Alongside her painting, she designed theatre costumes in the style of those created by Léon Bakst, and produced fabric designs for leading fashion houses in Lyon.
