Simon Bussy was a French artist trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and in Gustave Moreau’s studio, where he met Matisse and Eugène Martel, with whom he became friends. Closely associated with the Symbolist and Nabi movements, his work is characterised by a harmony of colours. Landscapes and animal pastels are recurring themes in his work. His works are held in numerous institutions, such as the Musée d’Orsay in Paris and the Tate Gallery in London.
