Fortuné CAR (1905–1970) Mediterranean Landscape Oil on panel Signed ‘Fortuné Car’ lower right 15 x 21 cm Framed DESCRIPTION A Provençal painter, he captured the landscapes of his region with poetry and talent. Influenced by the Impressionists, he depicted scenes of fishermen—which he painted with a palette knife using bright colours—as well as shepherds, seascapes and village views. His reputation extends beyond France’s borders, reaching as far as Canada, where he became a member of the Royal Academy of Painting in Montreal. His work is exhibited in numerous galleries alongside that of other Provençal painters such as Jean-Baptiste Olive, Eugène Baboulène, Jean Baltus and Charles Camoin.
