Description
Paul WAENDRIES (1991-1991). Low half-moon sideboard in walnut, walnut and walnut burl veneer opening to three arched leaves and a drawer in the waist. Pink marble top. Pull handles and patinated bronze grips marked A.P on the reverse. Signed Waendendries under the marble. With two keys.
Art Deco work from the 1950s.

Provenance: Part of a complete set of furniture from a Soissons estate.
Paul WAENDENDRIES was born in Soissons in 1911 into a family of architect-decorators. Trained at the Ecole Boulle, he set up his furniture shop at the junction of the Rue du Commerce and the Place Fernand Marquigny in Soissons. The sign can still be seen today ("Ameublement" pediment and "PW" monogram in wrought iron).
The Soissons museum holds a collection of furniture designed for the 1937 International Exhibition, as well as gouache and watercolour projects.
