Description
Paul WAENDRIES (1991-1991). Walnut and walnut veneered dining table with a central extension resting on a large tapered fluted central leg, the top with canted sides, the belt decorated with burr walnut veneer and a frieze of water leaves. Art Deco work from the 1950s. Without extensions. With four additional retractable legs.
Annotation under the top in pencil "Waendendries".

Provenance: Part of a complete set of furniture from a Soissons estate.
Born into a family of architect-decorators, Paul WAENDENDRIES, architect and designer, was born in Soissons in 1911. Trained at the Ecole Boulle, he set up his furniture shop at the junction of the Rue du Commerce and the Place Fernand Marquigny in Soissons. The sign can still be seen today ("Ameublement" pediment and "PW" monogram in wrought iron).
The Soissons museum holds a collection of furniture designed for the 1937 International Exhibition, as well as gouache and watercolour projects.
