MEDALLION BROOCH FEATURING THE PORTRAIT OF AN OFFICER – LATE 18TH CENTURY TO EARLY 19TH CENTURY A substantial oval-shaped medallion brooch adorned with a miniature painted on mother-of-pearl, depicting a young officer in a white uniform with epaulettes, presumably wearing the Knight’s Cross of the Royal and Military Order of Saint Louis. The miniature is protected by a domed glass cover and set within a two-tone 18K gold (750 ‰) mount, set with a row of faceted white stones. On the reverse, a glass-covered compartment containing a piece of two-tone braided hair, characteristic of sentiment jewellery from the late 18th and 19th centuries. Eagle’s head hallmark. French craftsmanship. Dimensions: 5 x 4 cm Gross weight: 32.73 g Signs of wear, scratches and discolouration on the glass, oxidation on the setting, minor scuffs.
