Description
Carved wooden BUTTER DIPPER with a turned handle. Decorated with swirling apple branches encircled by wolf’s teeth, with a central motif depicting a nipple and four further indentations symbolising fertility (shows signs of wear, holes made by wood-boring insects, with a white metal support ring added at a later date). Also included is a wooden butter mould in the shape of a bowl with a floral motif (slit) and a wooden mortar. CORNWALL, 19th century. Diameter 13 cm. Height 7 cm.
