HAAS Xavier (1907–1950): ‘Neptune’, woodcut monogrammed in the bottom left-hand corner of the plate, inscribed in pencil and numbered 49/200 in the bottom left-hand corner in pencil, c. 1940. A childhood friend of Xavier de Langlais, Xavier Haas studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and joined the Seiz Breur in 1936.
