According to the family’s descendants, Berthe Valérie PERON came from a family of arquebus makers (PERON RIEDER). They arrived in Paris around 1870. She was born in Saint-Omer and was a soprano actress in Paris. Her stage name was Romi. She performed at the Palais de l’Industrie in Paris, singing the triumphal ode to the French Revolution on 11, 12 and 13 September 1889.
Jane ROBERTS, a specialist in the work of Jacques-Emile BLANCHE, was kind enough to confirm the authenticity of this painting; it may be included in the catalogue raisonné, at the buyer’s expense.
