TRESSAN, L.-E. de la Vergne de. *The Story of Little Jehan de Saintré*. A fine binding bearing a coat of arms for this chivalric novel. Paris, Printed by Didot l’Aîné, 1780. In-18, full burgundy morocco, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets and fleurons, black leather title label, triple gilt fillet framing the covers with gilt lions at the corners and a gilt coat of arms in the centre, gilt inner roulette, gilt fillet on the edges, gilt edges. 182 pp. Slight scuffing from handling, a small tear in the title label, the coat of arms on the title page and the header band crossed out in ink, a few foxing spots. A chivalric novel based on the educational work by Antoine de La Sale, intended for the education of the sons of Louis de Luxembourg. Full binding bearing the coat of arms of the Duke of Duras, Emmanuel-Félicité de Durfort (1715–1789), Marshal of France and member of the Académie Française. His library was dispersed at auction in 1790. In good condition.
