Large quarto, burgundy coarse-grained half-maroquin with corner pieces, plain spine decorated with a longitudinal pattern of gilded arabesques, gilt head, untrimmed, double cover and spine preserved. Binding signed Paul Affolter. 206 pp., numerous reproductions of works with captions in a serpentine style. Joints rubbed. First edition of this monograph devoted to the painter of French elegance during the July Monarchy and the Second Empire. It is richly illustrated with plates printed in monochrome on white laid paper mounted on tinted paper. Limited edition of 500 numbered copies on Rives paper (no. 107); this copy is complete with the additional sky-blue cover reserved for the deluxe edition. A fine copy in a good contemporary binding by Paul Affolter.
