Large quarto, loose-leaf, in an olive half-cloth slipcase with flaps, with a spine and covers of beige grained paper. VIII and 334 pp., 65 woodcuts in the text and as inserts, initial letters. Minor signs of wear to the slipcase. A deluxe edition of this unclassifiable novel, featuring the Black Doctor and Stello, his patient, prone to melancholy and neurasthenia. It is illustrated with exquisite compositions by Georges Scott (1873–1943), all wood-engraved by Eugène Dété. With an introduction by Jules Case. A special reprint limited to 500 copies; this is one of 130 numbered copies on China paper. A fine copy awaiting binding.
