2 tomes in 2 volumes in-12, each bound in marbled sheepskin, contemporary calfskin spine decorated with small gilt ironwork, title and volume number labels in beige leather, double blind-stamped fillet framing the covers, guilloché edges and caps, red edges.
(1)-383 and (1)-344 pp., headbands, initials and tailpieces.
Covers restored, slight rubbing, a very small loss of leather at a lower corner of volume II, a few foxing spots.
Edition published one year after the original of these memoirs, based on the notes of Simon Reboulet, secretary to the Count of Forbin
[Quérard, II, 62].
Claude de Forbin (1656–1733), a brilliant naval officer during the reign of Louis XIV, distinguished himself in the naval wars against England and the United Provinces, took part in a diplomatic mission to the Kingdom of Siam and rose to the rank of lieutenant-general of the naval forces.
